If the band's ambition was "just to" reproduce old melodic BM classics like Dissection and early Emperor, I'd say it is a grand success, shit even the cover art reminds me of the "Storm" album... However, I wish this album had a bit more personality to it. These guys are from the U.K., after all. The first half is majestic, the second half a bit less. Still it's a very enjoyable melodic BM album.

Too tired to think about genre-wankery "post-thrashy-blackened" whatever. This is just some great black metal that, most importantly, feels fresh in some of the transitions, compositions, and note/chord choices and progressions.
